1) Where can I find the Village Laws online?
The Code of the Village of Nyack can be accessed via our website at http://www.nyack.org/code.php.

Birth & Death Certificates
2) What identification is needed to obtain a birth certificate?
Birth certificates can be obtained in-person between 9:00am and 2:00pm
Monday - Friday, except holidays when Village Hall is closed.

Acceptable Identification for in-person requests:
1. Driver's license
2. Non-driver's license
3. Passport
4. Naturalization papers
5. Military ID
6. Employer's Photo ID
7. Two different utility bills (e.g., water and electricity) showing applicant's name and address
8. Police report of lost or stolen ID

There is a $10 fee for each birth certificate.

3) Can I get a copy of a Marriage Certificate or License from the Village of Nyack?
No. Marrage liceses/certificates are maintained by the Town and must be requested from the Town Clerk where the license or certificate was issued. Orangetown Town Hall 26 Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962. The phone number is (845)359-5100.

4) How can I obtain a birth certificate by mail?
To obtain a certified birth certificate by mail, please send a NOTARIZED LETTER to:

9 North Broadway
Nyack, NY 10960

Be sure to include the following information and items:

1. Birth name of person on the birth certificate
2. Date of birth
3. Mother's first and maiden name
4. Father's first and last name
5. $10 money order made out to the Village of Nyack for each certificate
6. A self-addressed stamped envelope
7. Your notarized signature must be on the letter, or we can not process your request.

One is only eligible to obtain a certificate for oneself, if 18 or over, or for one's children. For further information regarding eligibility, please call (845) 358-0548.ext 548

5) Can I pay for a birth certificate/death certificate with a credit card?
No, our office does not accept credit cards at this time, we only accept cash or money order.

6) Can I fax in a notarized letter?
No. Our office must obtain the original notarized request.

7) Can I change my name on my birth certificate in the Clerk's office?
Please call (845)358-0548 ext 548 for answers to this question.

8) Is there ever a case where one can verify, over the phone, whether the Village of Nyack Clerk's office has a birth or death certificate?
No. By regulations of NYS Department of Health we are not allowed to verify any information on the phone.

9) How can I obtain a death certificate by mail?
You may send us a notarized letter including the deceased's name, date of death or period to be covered by the search, and, if known: name of the mother (maiden) and father of the deceased, social security number of the deceased, date of birth of the deceased, the age at death, and the place of death.

Also include the following:

Your relationship to the deceased.
In what capacity you are acting (e.g., executrix of the will).
If an attorney, name and relationship of your client to the deceased.

In addition, please specify how may copies - at $10 each - you would like, and whether you want them with or without the confidential cause of death.

10) To whom may a death certificate be issued?
1 To a person with a NYS court order issued on a showing of necessity.

2 The spouse, parent, or child of the deceased.

3 To the lawful representative of the spouse, parent or child of the deceased.

4 To a person requiring the record for a documented legal right or claim.

5 To a person requiring the record for a documented medical need.

6 To a municipal, state or federal agency when needed for official purposes.

Parking Tickets
11) How can I pay a parking ticket online?
ParkingTicketPayment.com is a new service being offered in conjunction with the Nyack Parking Authority. This service will allow you the convenience of paying any current and/or outstanding parking tickets issued by these municipalities over a secure web site with most major credit cards. Once payments are processed through www.ParkingTicketPayment.com, records at the Nyack Parking Authority will be updated accordingly, in real-time, and your parking tickets will be marked as paid.

12) When is alternate side of the street parking in Nyack?
Alternate side of the street parking is in effect seven (7) days a week.

13) Overnight parking is never allowed on which streets?
There is never overnight parking permitted on the following streets:

Broadway
Main Street
Franklin Street
Upper Depew Avenue
High Avenue between Franklin Street & Broadway

14) What do the snow emergency signs mean?
Do not park on streets where snow emergency signs are posted, otherwise we cannot remove the snow in a safe and timely manner.

Village Services
15) When do I put out my recycling?
For those who live south of Main Street, the first and third Wednesday of the month.
For those who live north of Main Street, the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
Cardboard is picked up on the fourth Wednesday of the month.


16) What day does my trash get picked up?
All village residents are entitled to one garbage/rubbish pick-up each week. All items must be placed at the curbside between 6:00pm on the evening before and 7:00am on the morning of pick-up. In business areas, cans must be removed within one hour of pick-up. In addition, bulk pick-up of items such as appliances, furniture, and debris is available on Friday in all village districts. The pick-up day is determined by address, according to the following schedule:

Trash cans must not exceed 50 LBS in weight. One person should be able to lift each can.


17) What is the official address for the Village of Nyack?
With the exception of the Department of Public Works, the address, both for mailing and for in-person visits is:

18) What are the rules regarding trash and debris pickup?
  • Grass, leaves, and weeds must be bagged.

  • Brush must be in manageable, tied bundles, less than 5 feet long.

  • Leaves must be bagged from December 5th - October 15th.

  • Leaves in the fall (October 15th - December 5th) may be placed in the gutter for pick-up. The leaves must be free of rocks, sticks, brush, and trash.

  • The Department of Public Works is not responsible for taking debris from contractor work areas.

  • Roll-Off Truck Rental: The village truck is available for major house clean-ups and other debris. The charge is $300 for the first 3 tons. Extra charges apply for additional weight. Call 845-358-3552 for more information.


  • Litter Baskets in the village are for use by visitors. They are not for household or commercial trash. The Penal Law of the State of New York allows for fines up to $250 and/or imprisonment for a term as long as 15 days for violating this law. You will be fined heavily for unlawful dumping.

    To all commercial properties and households: Trash is not picked-up on Saturday or Sunday in the Village.


    19) When are 2007 boat launch permits available from the Nyack Parking Authority?
    They are available from the Nyack Parking Authority Office at Village Hall at a cost of $200 (for both village residents and non-residents).

    We are now offering marina slips at the price of $70.00 per foot for a fixed dock and $80.00 per foot for a floating dock space. We also offer winter storage in the parking lot adjacent to our marina at a cost of $20.00 per foot for the period of October 31 - May 1.

    20) When is striper season?
    Striper season is from March 15 to April 30, 2005.

    21) When is the marina open during the year?
    The marina is open from May 1 to October 15, 2005.

    22) How can I contact the parking authority?

    23) Does Nyack charge a fee for launching a boat?
    The fee for launching a boat from the Nyack Municipal Launch Ramp is $25 per day; no fee is charged for a boat without a motor. (For example, rowboat, dinghy, kayak, or canoe.)
